Schottky diodes are an indispensable protective device for the production of electronic products, especially in portable electronic products and switching power supplies.
Schottky diodes are different from ordinary diodes. SBD is not fabricated by the principle of P-type semiconductors and N-type semiconductors forming a PN junction, but by the metal-semiconductor junction principle formed by metal-to-semiconductor contact.
Schottky diodes are available in both lead and patch packages. Leaded SBDs are commonly used as high frequency, high current rectifier diodes, freewheeling diodes or protection diodes. Which is available in single-tube and pair-tube (dual-diode) packages.
Comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of Schottky diodes in the power supply
Advantages:
1: low pressure drop, low loss voltage.
2: Fast switching speed, low loss, suitable for high frequency circuits.
Disadvantages:
1: Reverse bias is low, and can not withstand excessive reverse voltage.
2: Reverse leakage is a positive temperature coefficient. When the temperature rises, IR reverse leakage will increase.
